The foursome, driving the No. 3 Bartone Bros. Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Getspeed, made their way to the top of the Silver Class podium.
Spa, Belgium, (June 30, 2024) – Anthony Bartone (USA), James Kell (GBR), Yannick Mettler (SUI), and Aaron Walker (GBR) won the Silver Class in the SRO Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa ran at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium this weekend.
The foursome, driving the No. 3 Bartone Bros. Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Getspeed, made their way to the top of the Silver Class podium by dealing with over two hours of rain behind the Pace Car in the early evening last night and continuous additional yellow flag periods throughout the darkness. The team and drivers had to go from dry running to wet and back again. The sun came up Sunday morning and greeted the 65-car field to dry conditions in the Ardennes Forest region of Belgium for the race to the checkered flag.
In the closing hours of the race the team was locked into a battle with the Boutsen VDS Mercedes-AMG GT3. Swapping the Silver Class lead during pit stops, until the Boutsen car stopped on track providing some breathing room for the team to cruise to the class win in the largest GT3 endurance race in the world. The Getspeed Performance team provided excellent pit work and strategy throughout the 24 hours of racing supporting the drivers who covered 474 laps, 2,062 miles, and 30 pit stops to take the class win.
The win for Bartone adds to his International GT Open victory earlier in the season at Portimão.
“I’ve only been doing this for two years,” Bartone said. “It is just a pleasure to work with everyone at Getspeed and my co-drivers James, Yannick, and Aaron did everything they could to get this for us. I had good stints. It was a little tough with the changing conditions from wet to dry and back. I think we lacked overall pace in the dry, but it just came down to staying clean and minimizing mistakes and having good pace in the rain. The Getspeed Performance guys did a great job on pit lane and with the strategy. We even led overall during the night. Everybody went slicks during a wet period and we kept out on rains and the conditions went wet again, so that really transformed the whole race for us.”
The team would like to thank sponsors Red Line Synthetic Oil, Roger Dean Chevrolet, Talon Air, LLC, and Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed.
